A total of 28 people threw their hats in the ring on the first day of candidate filing for the fall elections.
A half dozen people were waiting in line when the Clallam County election center’s doors opened at 8 a.m. Monday.
The first 45 minutes saw 14 candidates file for office.
First in line was Ken Foster of Sequim, the former county auditor. He filed for the county Charter Review Commission, District 1.
A number of city and county positions — all the election races this year are for nonpartisan offices — drew no candidates on the first day
The weeklong filing period for candidates closes at 4:30 p.m. Friday. The county’s election center is located downstairs in the Courthouse.
Three candidates — Sequim residents Tim Fraser, William Hannan and Beverly Girvin — filed for the Port of Port Angeles District 1 commissioner, a six-year position representing the east end of the county.
Three Sequim residents filed for Fire Protection District No. 3, Position 1 — Frank Clatanoff, Richard Houts and Wesley P. (Wes) Short.
Except for the Charter Review Commission races, if more than two candidates file and qualify for an office they will face off in the primary election Sept. 18.
The top two vote getters go on the Nov. 6 general election ballot.
