Work to Learn Party set for Saturday

SEQUIM — The Sequim Botanical Garden Society invites the community to its Work to Learn Party presentation on efficient drip irrigation with Dona Brock at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The presentation will be at the Terrace Garden in Carrie Blake Community Park.

This talk introduces the typical home gardener to the use of drip irrigation to water plants during the dry summer months.

Brock will explain the principles, design, installation materials, and demonstrate the existing irrigation installed in the Terrace Garden.

Practical application

Brock and her husband retired in Sequim almost 20 years ago and spent almost 10 years as master gardeners.

Coming from the scientific and software technology world, she had to teach herself how to install drip on their 1-acre property, so she knows it is hard to get started.

That 18-year-old irrigation system she installed is still working with small adjustments for aging of the garden and new features.

Work to Learn Parties are an opportunity for novice and seasoned gardeners to volunteer together to cultivate what makes the community distinctive and flourishing.

Attendees are encouraged to bring gardening gloves, tools, sunscreen and hats and come mingle with other members of the community dedicated to growing a botanical garden.

The Sequim Botanical Garden Society is a volunteer partner with the City of Sequim and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, providing educational information and a visual demonstration of what can be done in home gardening with research-based horticultural practices at the Terrace Garden near the bandshell in Carrie Blake Community Park.
