A giant garage sale in Port Townsend and the Port Angeles Symphony and a variety of workshops and films are slated for this weekend on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Rayonier reunion

PORT ANGELES — All former Rayonier mill employees are invited to a get-together to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the pulp mill’s closure in February 1997.

The reunion will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Black Diamond Grange, 1942 Black Diamond Road.

Appetizers will be available, but attendees are asked to bring their own beverages.

Kayaker shares slides

PORT ANGELES — Sea kayaker and author Chris Duff will discuss and share slides from his 2011 attempt to row an ocean-going vessel from Scotland to Iceland at an event at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., at 7 p.m. today.

Duff will leave for Scotland on March 27 to attempt the trip again.

The event is free and open to the public.

Elwha film party

PORT ANGELES — A party to support Sequim-based videojournalist John Gussman’s documentary film project on the removal of the two Elwha River dams is planned tonight.

The party will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room at The Landing mall, 115 E. Railroad Ave.

It will feature light food and beverages and, at 7 p.m., a screening of footage from Gussman’s film so far.

There will be a drawing for a special Elwha Dam removal photo taken by Gussman.

Admission to the party is free. Contributions to Gussman’s film project can be made via his website, www.elwhafilm.com.

Comedy showcase

PORT ANGELES — A “Non-PC PC Comedy Club Showcase” will be held in Peninsula College’s Little Theater, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., at 7:30 p.m. today.

Drama professor Lara Starcevich promises all who come a live smorgasbord of sketch and skit comedy, stand-up, sendups and improv.

The event is free and open to the public.

Camp Fire tea

PORT ANGELES — Camp Fire USA Juan de Fuca Council will host an Alumni Tea at the Camp Fire Hall, 619 E. Fourth St., at 2 p.m. Saturday.

All adults who were former Camp Fire Kids are invited to attend.

Port Angeles Mayor and Camp Fire USA Juan de Fuca alumna Cheri Kidd will serve as guest speaker.

Refreshments will be served.

Mementos are welcome, as there will be a sharing table for displays.

School auction

PORT ANGELES — Olympic Christian School will conduct an auction and dinner fundraiser at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., on Saturday.

A silent auction open to the public will be held at 4 p.m.

The dinner and live auction is a ticketed event and will begin at 6 p.m.

Race for the green

PORT ANGELES — Registration forms are available for the city of Port Angeles Recreation Division’s St. Paddy’s Day Dash on Saturday.

The run will begin at noon at City Pier.

Runners will travel along the Waterfront Trail — following either a 5- or 10-kilometer course — and finish back at City Pier.

Registration is $25 per person and $15 for ages 18 and younger.

Medals will be awarded to the first, second and third finishers in each age division.

Costumes are encouraged, with prizes for “Best Wearing of the Green.”

‘Applause!’ dinner

SEQUIM — The Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra will host one of its major fundraisers, the “Applause!” dinner and auction, Saturday night.

The dinner and live and silent auction will be at 6 p.m. at the SunLand Golf & Country Club, 109 Hilltop Drive.

Broadband celebrated

SEQUIM — A community event to celebrate the completion of high-speed broadband expansion from Sequim to Blyn will be held at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., at 1 p.m. today.

The project is the first leg of a major expansion of broadband underway by NoaNet to bring high-speed Internet throughout the Olympic Peninsula.

‘Meet the Breed’

SEQUIM — The Leonberger dog breed will be featured at Best Friend Nutrition’s second program in its “Meet the Breed” series Saturday.

The program will be from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the business at 680 W. Washington St.

Children need to be accompanied by an adult, and other dogs are not invited into the store for the program.

Best Friend Nutrition also is hosting a free pet food demonstration from Tiki dog and cat canned foods from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Grafting workshop

SEQUIM — The Olympic Orchard Society, in association with McComb Gardens, will present a grafting workshop and scion exchange Saturday.

The workshop will be at 9 a.m. at McComb Gardens, 751 McComb Road.

A package of scion wood — in a choice of varieties — rootstock and grafting supplies sufficient for grafting one tree, along with instructions, will be available for $5.

Olympic Orchard Society members will graft trees for an additional $5.

A donation is requested for scion.

JeffCo garage sale

PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County Fair Association will host its 10th annual JeffCo Community Garage Sale at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 4907 Landes St., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

An Early Bird VIP Shoppers Pass enabling VIPs to start shopping at 8:15 a.m. is available for $10.

They can be purchased at the fair association’s information booth Saturday starting at 7 a.m.

In conjunction with the Community Garage Sale, the fair association will hold its own garage sale.

The fair restaurant will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for breakfast and lunch.

Trail day slated

PORT TOWNSEND — The next bimonthly trail day sponsored by the city of Port Townsend’s Non-Motorized Transportation Board will be Saturday.

The trail day will be at the 17th Street right of way near Grant Street School from 9 a.m. to noon.

Brush will be cleared for a couple of blocks.

Volunteers should dress for the weather and St. Patrick’s Day and meet at the intersection of 17th and Sheridan streets.

Board members will be there to greet volunteers.

Equipment needed will be clippers, loppers, pruning saws, rakes, work gloves and eye protection.

Registration is required, and special St. Patrick’s Day snacks will be served after the work is done.

Biomass forum set

PORT TOWNSEND — A “Biomass 101 for Families” forum is planned Saturday.

The forum will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2333 San Juan Ave.

Free child care will be provided at the event, which is for parents and by parents.

FORKS — A public screening of a documentary about Washington state’s new coastal Doppler radar station is planned Saturday.

Car seat clinic

FORKS — Child safety seats will be checked for defects, recalls, correct fit and installation at a car seat clinic Saturday.

The Forks office of the Clallam County Health Department is hosting the clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the office at 140 C St.

No seats will be available for replacement.
