Tales of Clallam County welcome at libraries across the area

Whether you were born here or moved to the area later in life, what was your first impression of this community?

What kind of positive changes have you seen or what changes would you like to see in the community?

What actions could you take to bring about that change?

Listen Up! Stories from the Northwest Corner presents local residents with ongoing opportunities to tell and help preserve the story of Clallam County for generations to come.

Members of the public are invited to share their stories about the Clallam County community this March with the North Olympic Library System, which oversees public libraries in Port Angeles, Sequim, Forks and Clallam Bay.

Interviews will take place by appointment or during drop-in hours Monday at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.; Tuesday and Thursday at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.; and Wednesday at the Forks Library, 171 S. Forks Ave.

An interview partner is recommended but not required to participate.

The program was inspired by StoryCorps, an organization focused on the collecting, sharing and preserving of oral histories.

Listen Up! interviews are conducted with the participant and an interview partner. Completed recordings are later archived and become available for listening on the Washington State Library’s Washington Rural Heritage website at www.washingtonrural heritage.org and are also available on the NOLS website at www.nols.org by selecting “Events” and then “Listen Up.”

Dozens of audio recordings and special compilation videos from past Listen Up! topics — most recently stories from veterans and about national parks — have already been preserved for posterity, organizers said.
