PENINSULA SPOTLIGHT: Unusual fundraisers for Port Angeles art event

PORT ANGELES — The musical portion of the monthly Port Angeles Second Weekend Art Event boasts bands in two locations tonight, with Art Rock moving to Wine on the Waterfront at The Landing mall and Studio Bob featuring Sarah Shea and Chez Jazz.

Art Rock organizer Dan Leiberman said the change in venue was done to coincide with the Feiro Marine Life Center’s “Fish on the Fence” fundraiser.

That event takes place at The Landing mall from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and features a catered dinner with entertainment and a live and silent auction (see preceding page).

Performing at Art Rock beginning at 8:30 p.m. is a new local band, Bdumpbump!

The band is new, but the performers have been playing together for years, with Marty Kaler on guitar, Kevin MacCartney on woodwinds and Jim Rosand on keyboards.

Artist Jeff Tocher is the Art Rock artist-in-residence and will be creating a painting of the event in progress.

Tocher is well-known for his whimsical “otter” painting series and was the featured artist at The Landing Gallery in April.

He is also a founding member of Gallery 9 in Port Townsend and will judge the Fish on the Fence art before heading to Art Rock.

Art Rock starts at 8:30 p.m., and there is a $3 cover charge.

Wine is available for purchase from Wine on the Waterfront.

Studio Bob, a short walk from The Landing mall, at 118 ½ E. Front St., the usual venue for Art Rock, is hosting a second musical and artistic happening.

Jazz singer Shea performs with her band, Chez Jazz, in conjunction with Madeline Nolan’s interpretive dance and Mike Anderson’s interpretive painting.

The event takes place from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

There is a suggested $3 donation for the band.

Exhibiting at Studio Bob tonight through Sunday is Bill Green, with a show of pencil and pastels, focusing on imaginary plant forms and organic themes.

There is a reception for Green from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, with a foundry pour by Stokes at 8:45 p.m.

Show continues 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
