Here is a sample of activities to enjoy this weekend.

SARC open house

SEQUIM — The Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center will host an open house Saturday.

The free open house will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the center at 610 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.

SARC staffers will provide free snacks and drinks, give tours of the center and hand out free passes for future visits.

Demonstrations of four fitness regimens are scheduled.

•SEnSPersonal trainer Brandon Stoppani will teach visitors about endurance circuit training from 11:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

•SEnSKim King will give a yoga demonstration from 11:45 a.m. to noon.

•SEnSTeresa Schmid will lead a mini Zumba class — aerobics to Latin music, for movers of any level — from 12:15 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.

•SEnSSchmid will then shift gears and teach tai chi, a gentle Chinese form of exercise, from 12:45 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Visitors will have opportunities to win passes that will provide them with $150 worth of SARC visits, a month of fitness classes and other benefits.

Land trust walk

PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson Land Trust docents will lead a nature walk in the Quimper Wildlife Corridor from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Participants will meet at the end of Willamette Street, off Cook Avenue, in Port Townsend.

Walkers should wear weather-appropriate clothing and footwear for the “easy walk on uneven terrain.”

The walk is free and open to the public.

Underwater neighborhood

John Williams, an underwater videographer and television host, will present “Our Underwater Neighborhood” in the Raymond Carver Room of the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody at 7 p.m. today.

Williams will show excerpts from his public access television show called “SEA-Inside: Pacific Northwest.”

He will show footage from his dives and talk about the wildlife and plants in local waters.

The event is co-sponsored by the Washington State University Beach Watchers, the Clallam County Marine Resources Committee, the Arthur D. Feiro Marine Life Center, Strait ECO Net and People for Puget Sound.

The presentation is free and open to the public.

Community potluck

NORDLAND — A community potluck will honor the service of emergency medical technicians from Marrowstone Island on Saturday.

The potluck will be at 4 p.m. in the Fort Flagler State Park’s Camp Hoskins dining hall.

Island residents had been served by Marrowstone Island EMTs since 1978 before the last practicing EMT on the island retired in January.

Emergency response is now handled by off-island EMTs from East Jefferson Fire-Rescue.

Scouts benefit

SEQUIM — A benefit pancake breakfast to benefit Boy Scout Troop 1492 is set Saturday.

The breakfast will be from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.

Proceeds will help the troop attend the 2010 National Jamboree in Virginia.

Help youth group

SEQUIM — The Dungeness Community Church youth group will put on a benefit talent show and silent auction tonight.

Bidding for silent auction items will begin at 6:40 p.m. at the church at 45 Eberle Lane. The show will begin at 7 p.m.

Proceeds will go toward the group’s spring break mission trip to Mexico.

Author appearance

SEQUIM — Author Dodie Sparks will provide autographed copies of her book, Spring ABCs, at Starbucks on Saturday.

The author will be at the coffee shop at 1095 W. Washington St. in Sequim from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The book’s poem is accompanied by reproductions of Sequim artist Bob Thompson’s original oil paintings.

Sparks will be at Starbucks again on March 20.

Growing berries

SEQUIM — Henery’s Garden Center will a host a free class on growing berries at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

The class, taught by R.T. Ball, owner of Evergreen Enterprises, will address how to choose berries and how to plant them.

Sharp at McComb

SEQUIM — Fran Sharp from Iseli Nursery in Boring, Ore., will discuss “Northwest Garden Gems — Japanese Maples and Conifers for Our Gardens” at McComb Gardens on Saturday.

The free presentation will be at 1 p.m. at the nursery at 751 McComb Road, which recently resumed regulars hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.

Sharp is active in many horticulture associations and is a charter member of the Great Plant Picks Selection Committee.

History tales

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles High School graduates from the class of 1961 will discuss “Growing Up in Port Angeles 50 Years Ago,” at the Clallam County Historical Society’s March History Tales presentation.

Top model show

JOYCE — Crescent High School will present its second annual Top Model Fashion Show tonight.

The show will be at 7 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria, 50350 state Highway 112.

Students will model donated clothing from Walmart, Swain’s General Store and Just N Love of Port Angeles.

Styles from the 1970s and formal, sports and summer clothing will be modeled.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students or $15 for a family.

Proceeds benefit the Crescent High School Booster Club and Parent Teacher Organization’s Class of 2010 scholarship fund.

Activities set

SEQUIM — The Sequim Senior Activity Center, 921 Hammond St., will host exercise, games and a movie this weekend.

Today, the center has a senior workout scheduled at 9 a.m., seniorcize at 11 a.m., pinochle at 12:30 a.m., singalong at 2:30 p.m. and bingo at 6 p.m.

A matinee featuring a movie or television classic will be at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Breakfast slated

JOYCE — The Port Angeles Lions Club will serve an all-you-can-eat benefit breakfast at the Crescent Bay Lions Clubhouse from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.

The breakfast is $6 for adults and $3 for children.

Proceeds will go toward purchasing a new health screening van.

The Crescent Bay Lions Clubhouse is at Holly Hill Road and state Highway 112.

Soils and seeding

CHIMACUM — The Cedar Tree Performers 4-H Club will host a gardening meeting on soils and seeding at the Chimacum Grange, 9572 Rhody Drive, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The presentation will include a focus on exploration and discovery for children, and demonstrations on constructing worm boxes, soil testing and seed planting.

Cedar Trees 4-H is seeking new members, ages 8-18.

Club members tend their own gardens and meet once a month to learn about timely things to do in the garden.

In addition, members organize a successful plant sale and trade.

Book discussion

SEQUIM — The Sequim Library’s book discussion group will talk about Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen at the library, 630 N. Sequim Ave, at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The book revisits the early life of 90-year-old Jacob Jancowski, who “cast his lot in the 1930s with a struggling circus, meeting characters ranging from Rosie the elephant and unscrupulous owners to the love of his life.”

Copies of the book are available at the Sequim Library and can be requested online through the library’s catalog at www.nols.org.

Preregistration for this program is not required, and drop-ins are always welcome.

ECCHO recognizes volunteers

PORT TOWNSEND — The Ecumenical Christian Helping Hands Organization, or ECHHO, will thank its volunteers at “An Evening Among the Stars” tonight.

Music, dancing and gifts will be featured from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Seaport Landing Senior Living, 2105 Hancock St., in Port Townsend.

Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served.
