International Surfing Day, Peninsula Dream Machines’ Hot Rods and Hot Dogs, a crabbing lecture and a low-tide beach walk are among the upcoming activities on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Student art week

PORT ANGELES — This year’s issue of the Tidepools art and literary magazine will be unveiled at 7 tonight as Student Art Week at Peninsula College concludes.

Tidepools will be presented at a reception in the Carver Room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

The exhibit of student art will be on display from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the gallery at the Pirate Union Building, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

The annual event is sponsored by the college’s humanities division.

Surfing day

PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation will celebrate International Surfing Day at 6:30 tonight.

The fundraising celebration will be at Harbinger Winery, 2358 W. U.S. Highway 101.

Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased at H2O Waterfront Bistro, 222 N. Lincoln St., or at the door.

The benefit will include a meal by H2O Waterfront Bistro, a raffle and live music by Ant Bath.

An auction will offer such prizes as accommodations in Mexico, a flight around the North Olympic Peninsula, stays at Quileute Beach Resort and Hoebuck Beach Resort and a Lib-tech surfboard.

PORT ANGELES — Clallam-Jefferson County Pro Bono Lawyers will conduct a legal aid clinic from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Clallam-Jefferson County Pro Bono Lawyers is a volunteer lawyer program serving low-income residents of Clallam and Jefferson counties since 1991.

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Swim Club will host a spaghetti dinner and silent auction fundraiser from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

The benefit will be at Harbinger Winery, 2358 W. U.S. Highway 101.

Tickets are $45 per person. Proceeds will benefit the Port Angeles Swim Club.

Black Diamond Junction will perform during the event.

The meal will include spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, bread, dessert and a beer or glass of wine; a vegetarian option also will be available.

PORT ANGELES — Monday Musicale will meet at noon Monday and hear a concert by scholarship winners Madelynne Jones and Evan Cobb at 1 p.m.

Concerts on the Pier

PORT ANGELES — Bread and Gravy will perform at 6 p.m. Wednesday to launch the 2019 Concert on the Pier series.

The concert series is held at City Pier, 315 N. Lincoln St.

Bread and Gravy performs a mix of soul, rock and bluegrass.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs to the free concerts.

Crabbing 101

PORT ANGELES — The Marine Resources Committees of Jefferson and Clallam counties will sponsor a lecture on crabbing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The class will be in the Carver Room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Future classes are scheduled in Port Townsend and Port Hadlock.

Senior dance

PORT ANGELES — Cat’s Meow will perform for a swing dance from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The dance will be in the Port Angeles Senior and Community Center, 328 E. Seventh St.

Refreshments will be served from 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Admission is $5 per person; first-time attendees are admitted free.

Courtroom 101

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County prosecutor’s office will present “Courtroom 101: Demystifying the Courtroom” from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The free introduction to how the court works will be presented in the historic Old Courtroom in the county courthouse, 319 S. Lincoln St.

Entrance will be through the front door and guides will direct attendees to the courtroom on the second floor.

FORKS

Legion Breakfast

FORKS — A breakfast is planned from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday.

The meal will be served at the American Legion Hall, 651 E. Division St.

The menu includes scrambled eggs, biscuits and sausage gravy, coffee, juice and water for a $6 suggested donation.

Birdhouse building

FORKS — The Forks Library will host birdhouse building at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The workshop will be at the library at 171 S. Forks Ave.

Lumber for the project was donated by Angeles Millwork and Hartnagel Building Supply. The Country Woodwright cut the lumber to create 300 birdhouse kits for the program.

Library staff and volunteers will help children construct their own birdhouses to take home.

Children younger than 8 years old must be accompanied by n adult.

Hammers will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own, if they have one.

Yoga storytime

CLALLAM BAY — The Clallam Bay Library will host “Yoga Storytime in Space” at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Yoga storytimes include stories, songs, breathing exercises and yoga poses. No yoga experience is necessary.

The free early literacy program is designed for preschoolers and their caregivers.

This week, the shop features men’s clothing, a selection of hand-painted irrigation plates and a Rie Munoz print.

White-tagged items are half price.

The club also will be host a Cruz’n at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Dupuis Restaurant, 256861 U.S. Highway 101. The public is welcome to stop by to view the cars.

SEQUIM — The Sequim Prairie Garden Club will host a Father’s Day pie social from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Homemade pie will be sold for $4 per slice, with coffee and tea included.

A display of antique cars by the Sequim Valley Car Club, live music by Just in Tyme and a raffle are planned.

Light of the Moon

SEQUIM — Jamie Michel will present “A Look into the Beach Lake Conservation Area Nearshore Restoration Project” at 7 p.m. Monday.

The lecture is part of the Learn by the Light of the Moon series at the Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road.

Michel is a nearshore restoration biologist at the Coastal Watershed Institute.

He will discuss nearshore change on the Elwha River delta over the past century.

This lecture is free and open to the public.

Music in the Park

SEQUIM — The Navy Band Northwest will perform from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The concert is part of the Music in the Park series at the James Center for the Performing Arts, 350 N. Blake Ave.

Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs or a blanket and a picnic for this free concert.

Wildlife lecture

SEQUIM — Bob Boekelheide will present “The Seabirds and Marine Mammals of the Protection Island Aquatic Reserve” at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The free lecture will be presented at the Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 Hendrickson Road.

Boekelheide is the vice-president and bird sightings chair of the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society.

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Marine Science Center will guide a low-tide beach walk from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Participants will meet at the center’s aquarium and museum.

The walk, which includes admission to the aquarium and museum, costs $5 per person, $3 for youths aged 5-17 years. Children younger than 5 and marine science center members are free.
