The Jefferson County Home Builders Association’s 2019 Home Show, a climate change talk and a flea market featuring alpacas are among the upcoming activities on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Flea market

PORT ANGELES — Olympic Peninsula Alpaca Rescue will host an indoor flea market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Saturday.

The market will be at the Moose Lodge, 809 S. Pine St.

The rescue will have alpacas on-site Saturday. Photographs with them will be available for a $10 donation to the rescue.

Book signing

PORT ANGELES — Local writer Brenda Carlsen will sign copies of her new children’s book, “Wascana’s Amazing Journey” from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today.

The book launch event will be at Odyssey Books, 114 W. Front St.

Puppet building

PORT ANGELES — Andy Furgeson will present a workshop on puppet building from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today.

The free workshop will be at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Participants will build puppets from paper, foam, fabric and yarn, and will learn puppetry techniques.

All materials will be provided for the workshop which is recommended for children 8 and older.

Contra dance

PORT ANGELES — Michael Karcher will be calling for a contra dance from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

The dance will be at the Black Diamond Community Hall, 1942 Black Diamond Road.

Music will be provided by Potent Brew.

Regular attendees should note the schedule change, with the introduction to contra dance at 7 p.m. and the dancing at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is $8 per person, $4 for children younger than 18.

Parking might be limited due to piles of snow, so carpooling is encouraged.

Newcomers’ luncheon

PORT ANGELES — Sarah Morrison will be the guest speaker at the Olympic Newcomers’ Club luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The luncheon will be in the lounge at the Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St.

Morrison, a librarian with the North Olympic Library System, will discuss the resources available through the library system.

Lunch will cost $21 per person.

Senior dance

PORT ANGELES — Cat’s Meow will perform for a senior swing dance from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The dance will be at the Port Angeles Senior and Community Center, 328 E. Seventh St.

The dance will be followed by refreshments at 8 p.m.

Admission is $5 per person, first time attendees are admitted free.

Brain injury group

PORT ANGELES — A brain injury support group will meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The monthly meeting is held in the Wendel Room, Olympic Medical Center, 939 Caroline St.

The free support group is open to the public.

Women’s Day event

PORT ANGELES — Womanfest and Olympic Cellars will host their 15th International Women’s Day celebration at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The annual celebration will be held at the Olympic Cellars winery, 255410 U.S. Highway 101.

A dinner of homemade soups, fresh bread and cookies will be available for a suggested donation of $10 per person.

Proceeds from the celebration will benefit Clallam-Jefferson County Pro Bono Lawyers and the Port Angeles Nor’wester Rotary Club’s Dignity Toilet project.

No-host wine will also be available.

Kiwanis to meet

PORT ANGELES — Phyllis Darling will speak at the Kiwanis Club of Port Angeles lunch at noon Thursday.

The club meets weekly at Joshua’s Restaurant, 113 Del Guzzi Drive.

Darling, a board member of Camp Beausite NW, will speak about construction projects and upcoming youth camps.

FORKS — Therapy Dogs International will have therapy dogs available from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Miller is the author of “From No-knead to Sourdough: A Simpler Approach to Handmade Bread.”

James, a senior transportation planner for Clallam County, will speak about the current state of the Olympic Discovery Trail and the trail’s impact on the community.

Diabetes support group

SEQUIM — Ken and Sandra Hoff will be the guest speakers at the Sequim Diabetes Support Group meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The group meets monthly in Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St.

After he was diagnosed with diabetes, Ken lost 50 pounds using only exercise and portion control.

Sandra will discuss the challenges that she faced in supporting her husband’s weight loss program.

The Duffs will discuss sailing nearly 2,000 nautical miles up British Columbia’s Inside Passage in the 24-foot sailboat Ouzel.

CHIMACUM — Atsuko Gibson will address the Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society meeting at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Gibson will speak about the wild azaleas she observed during a trip to the Japanese prefecture of Tochigi.

Gibson, a horticulturist, is the nursery manager and assistant curator at the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden in Federal Way.

Pancake breakfast

PORT LUDLOW — The South Bay Community Association will host a charity pancake breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. today.

The breakfast will be at the Bay Club, 120 Spinnaker Place.

Proceeds from the breakfast will benefit the Ludlow Village Players.

According to a press release, the club’s pancake breakfast in February raised more than $400 for the Community Wellness Project.

Climate lecture
