Clallam libraries to host storytimes starting in January

PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Library System is offering storytime sessions at all four of its North Olympic Peninsula branches from January through April.

Sessions include stories, music, rhymes and plenty of movement and fun, organizers say. Activities such as talking, reading, playing and singing all play an important role in early childhood development, they note.

At the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., storytimes are held the first Saturday of the month January through March, and every Tuesday from March 14 through April 25.

From 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Jan. 7, “Hibernation Storytime” participants will read, sing, play and talk about winter sleepiness and animals that hibernate.

From 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Feb. 4, Sequim will host “Cozy Up Storytime.” Attendees are encouraged to come in their comfiest pajamas and get ready for some snugly Saturday morning early literacy skill building and fun.

From 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. March 4, it will be “Bee Storytime” to welcome spring with tales of flowers, bees, and other colorful and lively things.

Storytimes shift to Tuesdays, March 14 and April 25 (rain or shine), from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the field behind the library.

In Port Angeles, storytimes will be from this coming Monday through April 28 and include Preschool Storytime from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays, Baby Storytime from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Fridays, and Toddler Storytime from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Fridays. Each of these sessions are in the Carver Room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Forks Library will host Family Storytime every Saturday of the month except for first Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., as well as Spanish/English Bilingual Family Storytime from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the first Saturday of the month, Jan. 7- April 29.

Clallam Bay’s library will host Family Storytime on the last Thursday of the month (Jan. 26, Feb. 23, March 30 and April 27), from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

For more information about NOLS’s storytimes, visit nols.org/storytime or email to youth@nols.org.

This program is funded in part by local Friends of the Library groups.

About 15 hardy cyclists from the Victoria area came across on the early Coho ferry Tuesday to ride up to the top of Hurricane Ridge on their Canada Day July 1st. The cyclist made the round trip in about 4 hours in time for the return noon ferry back home. This yearly trek has been happening for over 20 years and is organized by word of mouth through various cycle shops in the greater Victoria area. The numbers of riders was down considerably this year as riders shared that many felt “uncomfortable" coming over to America with the current political situation.
