Champagne gala to open Port Ludlow arts series season

PORT LUDLOW — Season tickets are on sale for the Port Ludlow Arts Council’s 21st series of concerts, which starts with the Carpe Diem String Quartet this fall and wraps with “Phantom of the Opera” star Franc D’Ambrosio next spring.

The Port Ludlow Arts Council offers two season ticket packages: all six concerts for $120, or the flex pass, a $132 ticket several people can share.

For an order form, visit the Bay Club or visit www.PortLudlowArtsCouncil.com.

Of the 110 subscriptions made available, only about a dozen are left, arts council president Barbara Wagner-Jauregg said Monday.

She expects the gala opener to sell out, and noted that season passes will guarantee tickets to such events.

Individual tickets to each concert are also available for $24 each on the arts council website.

They can be purchased by check at the Bay Club about a month before each show.

The six concerts, all of which will be at the Bay Club, 120 Spinnaker Place, showcase a wide range of music, from a Seattle-born jazz songstress to a Russian pianist.

Here’s the lineup:

■ The Gala Champagne Opener is set for Saturday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m. with the Carpe Diem String Quartet; the ensemble is known for its innovative treatment of jazz, rock, classical, gypsy and tango music.

■ On Friday, Oct. 19, Cabaret Night features gypsy jazz with the all-acoustic Gonzalo Bergara Quartet, featuring Argentine composer and guitarist Bergara.

■ Seattle’s Greta Matassa, voted Northwest Vocalist of the Year six times by Earshot Jazz, brings her quintet to town for a holiday matinee at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9.

With Clipper Anderson on bass and guest artist Susan Pascal on vibraphone, Matassa will offer holiday music plus popular songs by Burt Bacharach, the Carpenters and the Tijuana Brass.

■ The International String Trio, featuring players from Russia, Japan and England, appears Friday, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m.

These Berklee College of Music alumni have in their repertoire a wealth of folk music from various cultures, classical arrangements and familiar tunes.

■ Russian pianist Liana Forest will perform Friday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m.

Forest, who has been hailed around the world for her virtuoso skills, musical insight and warm stage presence, will bring along a bassist and a percussionist for an evening of “Bach to Broadway.”

■ Best known for his portrayal of the “Phantom of the Opera” in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical and for his 2009 performance in Port Ludlow, Franc D’Ambrosio returns for the series finale on Saturday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m.

His show is titled “Hollywood: Songs of the Silver Screen.”
