Moyer: Supports the proposed MAT clinic in Sequim

I am a retired licensed clinical social worker who has lived in Sequim for over 15 years.

I am writing to support the proposed medically assisted treatment known as MAT.

I attended the hearing at the City Council meeting on Monday, Dec. 9.

Many protesters from Save Our Sequim ( SOS) were also there.

Their speakers continued to mislead by claiming that bus loads of addictive criminals would be bused into Sequim from the Seattle area to be treated with methadone at the clinic.

This clinic will help area residents get comprehensive help for their opioid addiction.

Clallam County is know to have one of the highest rates of opioid addiction in the state.

Yes, I hope that this clinic will provide busing.

Busing for county residents will be needed to help get patients in from their local homes to their appointments.

Based on many years of clinical experience, I know that the average patient will be older, with other medical problems and will be living in their own local homes.

Many people become addicted due to pain from accidents or painful medical conditions.

An addicted grandmother living in Sunland is not very threatening.

The clinic will provide comprehensive care including medication, counseling, medical and dental care.

It truly will be a Healing Campus.
