LETTERS: Opinions but no answers at Sequim rally

Hypocrisy in Sequim

I attended the Save Our Sequim rally at The Farm.

SOS is non-partisan, so I went as an Independent.

I heard from speakers, “Eye clinic? Foot clinic? No problem!”

“Yoga center for addicts!”

“Methadone, in the sewer, can become a carcinogen!”

“Ashland, Ore., has ‘expulsion zones!’ ”

“No relocating any large treatment center!”

“Port Angeles, with addicts, is an undesirable place to live and is pushing ‘safe injection sites!’ ”

At least they didn’t say “rat infested.”

Speakers started sentences with, “We’re not against treatment …”

An audience member asked, “What’s your proposal?” From the podium, “Please, questions come at the end!”

Someone shouted, “Troll!” In fact, the questioner was kinda tall.

After two hours and no questions, I vamoosed.

Anyway, the DEA released national opioid pill data.

Sequim pharmacies, 2006-2012, dispensed 13,785,240 opioid pills.

A lot of pills for golden-agers living in the crown jewel of the Olympic Peninsula?

What do I know?

Another speaker, “No crisis, here!”

No addicts after all those pills?

It’s a good thing.

As I left an old guy said, “The Olympic Peninsula has a lot of old guys — with chronic pain.”

Don’t I know it.

Newcomer “Blue Hole” speakers were videoed. I have only my notes.

Just for fun, I Googled “Churches in Sequim.”

I hope to attend soon and learn about the lost “Beatitudes of An Enjoyable and Artsy Community.”

Blessed are the retirees.

Blessed are the tourists.
