LETTER:Pick the best

The amazing lands of the North Olympic Peninsula have always been the backbone of our community’s economy, culture, health, beauty and quality of life.

With significant population and climate pressures at our doorstep, land-use decisions and planning are more important than ever.

Here in Clallam County, voters have the opportunity and responsibility to elect the director of the Department of Community Development, a position that oversees the planning and enforcement of land-use practices and permits across the county.

By June 30th, 2025 this director will need to have completed an update to our county’s comprehensive plan, the definitive guide for land-use permitting on all private lands outside of our three cities.

For me, I am looking for the candidate best suited to lead county staff and the general public through this planning process and create a plan that, when coupled with quality enforcement, seeks to build our quality of life in the face of these mounting pressures for generations to come.

Please be sure to vote in this vital election by Nov. 8.
