The legislation requested by state Attorney General banning the sale of high-capacity gun magazines misses the mark.
Possession of a magazine greater than 10 rounds hardly prevents gun violence.
Preventing the use of a firearm in the commission of a crime, regardless of magazine capacity, has the potential to reduce gun violence.
Instead of limiting magazine capacity, why not add five years to the sentence of anyone using a firearm in the commission of a crime?
If magazine capacity is of concern, add six months for every round of magazine capacity to the five years.
This would further enhance the penalty for use of a firearm in the commission of a crime.
Better yet, why not require that the same procedure used to purchase a firearm, an ATF Form 4473 and background check, be used to purchase a magazine.
If you can’t own a gun, you shouldn’t be able to purchase a magazine of any capacity.
Why compromise law abiding citizens?
Compromise criminals instead.
