LETTERChooses peace

As human beings we learn throughout our lifetime from observation and instruction.

As children, we create a system at an early age that enables us to make conscious choices.

As an example, I created two distinct characters, an angelic figure dressed in shimmering white who sat on my left shoulder and whispered into my left ear and a very red devil complete with horns, a tail, and a spear who sat on my right shoulder and whispered into my right ear.

By trial and error, I learned which words and thoughts lead to a joyful outcome and which actions lead to regret.

In these conflicted times, it is crucial that we reflect deeply on the insights we have accrued as individuals and as a country that declares itself a democracy as we contemplate the consequences of our interactions with others.

Our choices will result in unity or chaos.

On Jan. 6 we saw the results of anarchy.

My choice is a peaceful resolution based on facts.
