LETTER:Antisemitism

After reading a Suzanne DeBey column in the Peninsula Daily News, I asked a friend, who I think would know, whether there is persecution of Jews here in Port Angeles.

“Yes” was the answer.

That is very disturbing, for several reasons.

First, assuming that the persecutors are nominally Christian and should obey Christ, persecution is contrary to Christ’s teaching.

At the human level, it is downright mean.

Second, and this is important, driving Jews out of the country is quite stupid and against our best interests.

Hitler’s persecution of Jews led Albert Einstein and other great thinkers to the U.S.

Do you want to reverse that type of emigration?

I don’t; it’d chop at the roots of U.S. preeminence.
