Voting for Brotherton
At a public forum on Oct. 19, Tom Brotherton and Dan Toepper debated their approaches to the job of PUD commissioner.
Both candidates described themselves as collaborative decision makers who listen carefully to public concerns and priorities.
Brotherton, a retired Boeing engineer and senior manager with an MBA and a law degree, was repeatedly referred to by Toepper as “white collar, top down.”
Toepper, a highly experienced heavy equipment operator, used “blue collar, bottom up” to describe his approach to policy making.
Whomever we elect will face contentious and highly technical policy issues on smart meters, public debt, emergency management, rural internet development and long range strategic planning.
I want someone who has relevant technical and organizational experience to set PUD policy.
I don’t care if he or she wears a white or blue collar. Tom Brotherton is going to get my vote.
