LETTER: Vote yes on levy

Should the school improvement levy pass, Port Angeles expects to receive $18.4 million in state assistance to help remodel our schools.

If the levy doesn’t pass, the money goes elsewhere in the state — and we continue to have worn-out, unsafe and obsolete school facilities, designed and built in the middle of the last century.

Face it — we’ve been kicking the can down the road for years when it comes to our schools.

Once again, opponents say that alternatives have not been properly researched and studied.

We’re told patching up old buildings — which have outlived their useful lives — is as good as constructing a new school that meets vital new standards for learning, safety and security.

Make no mistake, all the options were studied, all the data was analyzed — and the reality of the situation is staring us in the face.

And to assume that if we vote no that our taxes will not go up is false.

It will cost us more in the future.

Now is the time. Let’s be smart and get the most out of our money.

Please vote yes on the levy.
