Whatever happens in the Republican-controlled Senate now that articles of impeachment have been leveled and approved against President Donald Trump by the House of Representatives, we will remember the hypocrisy of Republican lawmakers who made excuses repeatedly for Trump and his sleazy, if not criminal, use of withholding foreign aid for Ukraine, the mocking of the impeachment process as unfair when Trump stonewalled Congress yet again, the representatives’ attempts to out the whistleblower and the personal attacks on public servants who were willing to testify before the House.
No amount of undying support for Trump will erase his earned reputation as a liar, a cheating businessman, a pathetic statesman and a corrupted president.
He will remain a permanent embarrassment to this country with or without removal from office.
