LETTER: Trump, hate groups

Sending uninvited, unidentified militarized federal agents to an American city that hadn’t requested assistance, as Trump has done in Portland, Ore., is an act of federal aggression against the city’s leadership and citizens.

This is akin to what China’s been doing in Hong Kong. China is an authoritarian communist state.

What are we now?

Trump’s eagerness to insert himself into Portland and Oregon has been evident for some time.

I believe this is a petty and unlawful bid to appease his white nationalist base, who are easily distracted by simplistic bait like this.

For the record, the group calling themselves Antifa, or Antifascists, in our region and in western Oregon were formed to stand against the out-of-area hate groups like the Proud Boys, etc., which have been coming into Portland to terrorize minority families and citizens there for years.

Antifa thus is a group with defensive ideals, not offensive.

They are based upon the hatred of no one, only to stand against fascism and terroristic aggression.

The Proud Boys, as well as many domestic militia groups now, sadly, are organized around racist hatred of others.

The Proud Boys’ credo says you must beat up someone you disagree with, to get their cred.

Sick.

Too many good, decent Americans are misled and remain ignorant of the staggering rise of rotten groups like this since the advent of Trump onto our political scene.

Trump will never call out hate groups though, as they are a valued part of his base.

Why?
