LETTER: Tribe’s endorsement of Dave Neupert for Superior Court judge wasn’t one-sided

I was surprised by the Nov. 3 letter in Peninsula Voices, “Coughenour No. 1,” that accused the Jamestown S’Klallam tribe of making a one-sided endorsement of Clallam County Superior Court judge candidate Dave Neupert.

The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Council does not invite candidates to its meetings.

When a candidate contacts us requesting to be added to our agenda, we welcome the opportunity to get to know the person, listen to the person’s platform and accomplishments, and ask questions that relate to the tribal government, our treaty rights and views affecting the interest of our citizens and business entities.

As partners of this community, we are aware of the work done by elected officials throughout Clallam and Jefferson counties as well as the state and federal elections.

This includes Superior Court Judge Brian Coughenour [who is running against Neupert].

We were impressed by the views shared by Dave Neupert and chose to endorse him.

W. Ron Allen,

Sequim
