LETTER: Time to celebrate with a slowdown

Time to slow down

These days you occasionally hear on the news that the economy is not growing or, God forbid, slowing down.

Come on.

The planet has very quickly become much smaller.

It’s covered with people, cities, cars, roads, railroads, pipelines and strip malls.

The oceans are crowded with giant cruise ships, ever larger container ships, fishing fleets and islands of garbage.

Just how much growing are you going to celebrate?

Me, I am celebrating the slowdown.

We all must slow down.

If you ask me, I would tell the world to stop.

Stop the drilling.

Stop the digging.

Stop cutting down all the beautiful trees, especially the rain forests.

Stop taking all the fish.

Stop with the thousands of crazy container ships filled with Chinese crap we don’t need, or that we can make for ourselves and make better.

We are killing our world.

Where will we go?

Build a stairway to heaven with cash?
