LETTER: Thank you, Ron Jones, for the gift of music you’ve given us over the years

Port Angeles High School orchestra teacher Ron Jones will be missed [“Retiring Port Angeles High School Music Teacher Grew Program,” PDN May 7].

The measure of a man is not his wealth but the contribution he has made to his community, and Jones’ contribution to this community has been unparalleled.

Few people have touched the lives of so many.

Through his talent and determination, Jones has built one of the best orchestra programs in the county, but more important, he has taught thousands of his students the love of music.

His singularly distinctive accomplishments have enriched our community and the lives of his students beyond measure.

In the words of Martin Luther: “Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world.”

Thank you for giving your students and this community the art of music.

Godspeed in your retirement. Play on, maestro.

Rick Porter,

Port Angeles
