LETTER: Supports Will Purser for Clallam PUD commissioner

As a former Clallam County Public Utility District commissioner, I worked closely with Will Purser for 19 years.

Under his leadership, the PUD rebuilt and modernized the infrastructure, developed a functioning smart grid, implemented a comprehensive vegetation management program, and a long-term capital plan that has reduced the frequency and duration of electric outages.

Under Will’s leadership, the PUD has been recognized for 9 consecutive years as an American Public Power Association for excellence in reliability, safety, workplace development, and system improvement.

More recently, the PUD has been awarded APPA’s “Smart Energy Provider” recognizing utilities that show commitment to and proficiency in distributed generation, renewable energy, and environmental initiatives.

In 2022, the PUD completed a 4th consecutive perfect state audit, and was awarded the GFOA’s Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting.

Will’s current work as executive board president of Energy Northwest, and previous work on the Public Power Council has given our PUD a voice in regional power discussions far beyond our size.

While his opponent, Ken Hays, is adept at snap judgements and ill-informed pronouncements regarding PUD and BPA operations, Will is deliberate and knowledgeable with more than 20 years of leadership experience in regional power.

Will knows the issues necessary to ensure a successful post-2028 BPA contract and can navigate the complex issues associated with state-mandated removal of power supply carbon.

The choice is clear, re-elect Will Purser.

He is committed to clean, low cost, reliable electric service.
