LETTER: Stanko deserves more time to polish his programs

Vote for Stanko

I have worked with and respect both candidates for the position of Jefferson County sheriff.

Dave Stanko has done a professional and tough job re-shaping the department, which has been professionally recognized as much improved in his term.

He has broken some eggs, but it is a quasi-military unit best run under a strong hand.

He has a strong background in law enforcement which gives him the basis for long-range development and improvement; and the street smarts to know how to work with and for his community, for which he has clear priorities.

Those who criticize him seem to do so because he has changed so many things his predecessors did and developed, but the deputies look and act sharp and on the ball, as if they believe in working for the good of the community, have a sense of service and duty and generally impress with a high level of professionalism.

Those who have to choose between the two candidates need to consider what they have experienced, seen and heard from others who had to call the Sheriff’s Office in the last three-plus years, to know how good a job Sheriff Stanko’s deputies have been working for the community under his leadership.

I favor keeping the incumbents who seem to be doing a good job. Let Stanko finish the time he offered us as sheriff and needs to polish his programs.

Chuck Henry,

Port Townsend
