LETTER: Should put drug treatment facility in Blyn

Sequim’s upcoming drug addiction unit will be located on 20 acres right next to Costco, in the heart of downtown, on land purchased by the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe.

The tribe will jointly operate the facility, according to the PDN.

I understand this news has created quite a stir and brought a concerned public out en masse to a recent Sequim City Council meeting and sparked the creation of a group, Save Our Sequim; a website, save oursequim.org; Facebook and Twitter pages; and a GoFundMe campaign, www.gofundme.com/f/save- our-sequim.

Wouldn’t it make much more sense to locate this behavioral health center away from downtown businesses and instead locate it on the tribe’s well-established campus in Blyn, where their dental clinic and other offices are located?

This would also locate the addiction unit close to the soon-to-be opened 7 Cedars hotel, making it convenient for visiting family.

Locating this center away from businesses and tourists would also help reduce downtown traffic, which has increased exponentially in recent months and is getting more congested by the day.
