LETTER: Sequim the wrong location for a drug clinic

I’m not in favor of the proposed medication-assisted treatment facility being built in Sequim.

The location is all wrong.

The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe is not a benevolent benefactor whose purpose is to provide for and protect the citizens of Sequim.

The proposed MAT is a for-profit business.

Why do we need this new facility and where are the addicts going to come from who are to benefit from it?

They obviously don’t live here now.

They will be transported in from elsewhere to receive their medication and then they must leave the clinic.

They can’t loiter on the premises.

Where will they go?

Downtown Sequim and surrounding neighborhoods.

Addicts often support their addiction through acts of crime to produce the necessary money they can’t earn through normal employment.

In Sequim, the impact of an influx of addicts of this magnitude will be devastating.

I am concerned for the quality of life in Sequim.

Many other cities have learned this lesson the hard way.

Why must we go down that same road so the tribe can make more money?

Where is the benefit to the citizens of Sequim?
