LETTER: Sequim drug clinic should be named for Chapman, Tharinger

In a recent PDN article the public was informed that a new behavioral health facility would be located in Sequim on a 20-acre parcel on the southeastern border of Costco.

Behavioral health-care is important and a previous article in the PDN on May 6, indicated that our two state representatives, Mike Chapman, Port Angeles and Steve Tharinger, Port Townsend were instrumental in obtaining $7.2 million of our tax dollars from the state for the estimated $20 million project.

The article stated that it would draw clients from Jefferson and Clallam Counties, reportedly 650 per year total both inpatient and outpatient.

Caring for people who have behavioral problems is of tantamount importance to society and I would suggest this sprawling facility be named the Chapman-Tharinger Clinic so that we can be reminded of who is responsible for bringing this facility to Sequim.

I have a feeling that if the facility achieves the success that is forecast we can reach out to other communities who do not have such a facility and offer space for their behavioral health clients when there is empty bed space.

The caring and volunteerism of the Sequim community never ceases to amaze.

Thanks.
