LETTER: Schools are built to last, vote no on levy

Vote No

Schools are built with the best material available. Craftsmen are paid the prevailing wage.

Schools are built to last, with the proper maintenance.

School budgets include funds for maintenance and, if proper maintenance is done yearly, buildings will last a long time.

Is there a maintenance schedule to inspect the roofs, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, interior and exterior painting, flooring, etc. all with the funds set aside for these maintenance issues?

Where has the maintenance money gone and why hasn’t the property been maintained?

Who is responsible for assuring the property is maintained?

These questions need to be answered with an accounting of every dollar, done by an independent accounting firm and made public.

If there isn’t enough money in the maintenance budget, then trim the fat and eliminate the non-essentials. Don’t put the burden on property owners.

I suggest the conditions of the school building be addressed by an independent agency.

That a panel of knowledgeable contractors and professional people evaluate the findings, which should be made public and correct any issues, not build a new school.

From time to time there will be a need to raise money for specific issues.

However it appears the school district needs some proven professional property and financial management.

Passage of the proposed levy would put a financial burden on homeowners and non-owner occupied property, passed on to the tenants.
