LETTER: Save the mountain goats in Olympic National Park

Save the mountain goats

Time is running out for our Olympic National Park’s mountain goats.

The National Park Service naturalist/scientists have concluded their quarter-century of attempts to get rid of the goats.

How much money in salaries has that cost you and me?

A certain number of the animals will be airlifted out of the park for relocation to the eastside parks and the remainder will be exterminated by hunters in helicopters.

How much will that cost you and me?

Who thinks up these schemes?

How cruel can they be?

Why are we asked to “save the rhinos, tigers, sharks, elephants, monkeys and apes” when we wont save our own park animals?

Put salt licks in the farther backcountry.

There are a lot of aggressive and potentially dangerous animals in the park.

That’s why we go there, and have you ever tried to eat a sandwich when aggressive birds want your food?

Save our mountain goats.
