LETTER: Rescind levy

When voters passed a 52.6 million dollar capital school levy for Port Angeles last year they, along with the rest of the world, could not imagine what 2020 had in store.

Times have taken a dark turn since then, as 2020 has impacted our lives like never before.

According to experts, the economic effects will linger for years.

Businesses and households alike are suffering from the effects of COVID-19 and the subsequent fallout.

Every aspect of the levy objectives has been impacted as well.

Families have left Port Angeles in droves searching for greener pastures in this time of hardship.

With that said, this is not the time to impose an additional financial burden on our community.

Our local government needs to take whatever actions necessary to rescind the levy.

All of us need time to weather the turbulent financial challenges we’re currently facing.

We can reassess our situation and future needs after the smoke clears.
