LETTER: Recent letter on ‘illegals’ cherry-picked data to suit opinion

The April 6 letter to Peninsula Voices, “Anti-sanctuaries,” seems to employ an analogy taken from the movie “A Time to Kill” to delegitimize sanctuary cities.

Crimes committed by undocumented workers are an aberration and pale in comparison to those committed by our own citizens.

In Los Angeles, during Cinco de Mayo, much building comes to a halt because the talented, hardworking, non-union, lower-paid “illegals” hired by the building trades take the day off.

They live in enclaves under less-than-desirable conditions — often many people to a room — paying inflated rents.

Who among us would commit crimes while wishing to stay under the radar of immigration authorities?

Undocumented workers labor in our fields under a broiling sun to harvest the fruits and vegetables we eat.

Now, close your eyes and think about tearing their families asunder by separating them from their loved ones.

Now, picture that family as your own.
