LETTER: Park models

I have been waiting 20-plus years for Port Angeles to lighten up and allow park models in city properties as main homes, not just as accessory dwelling units (ADUs).

I know that HUD structures, like modulars, are allowed because they meet the increased fire, life and safety standards.

So they are telling me it’s OK for renters to live in an ADU, but not OK for the property owner to live in an ADU.

Why would you allow a renter in such, but not the property owner?

This is totally not making any sense.

In the same neighborhood that I am trying to put two park models on one lot, I see multiple structures.

What is this city wanting, money?

Well, with my city empty lot, I guess it’s not important.

More affordable housing?

Guess that too is not important.

Yet, I read in this local paper that affordable housing is a priority.

It’s been proposed that you can pick one of five homes that have been preapproved and you do not have to pay for a building permit.

Yet you still have to pay for costs to other professionals before you can build the house.

Again, the more costs you incur, the higher rent one must pay to the land owner.

When the city decides that they understand the inconsistencies, maybe I have a chance.

What’s another 20 years?

Hope I am still around.
