LETTER: Opposes incumbents

Bruce Springsteen’s ” My City of Ruin” must be the theme song of three council members running for reelection.

Residents have every reason to vote for a new council and dismiss council members LaTrisha Suggs, Lindsey Schromen-Wawrin and Kate Dexter.

These three have allowed drug-addicted transients to continue living their lifestyle on public property.

New candidates are committed to seek a multi-functional solution with reason and compassion, based on choices: accept help or go to jail.

Not content to destroy the city, they have set their sights on three neighborhoods east of the city whose properties are protected by the Waterfront Trail.

After the city has had years of failure of properly maintaining this trail, Suggs and Schroman-Wawrin have both suggested the trail should revert back to its natural state. Mayor Dexter agreed.

Never mind that this iconic segment of the 135-mile Olympic Discovery Trail provides abundant beach access to residents, provided 200,000 users last year with health maintaining relief for pandemic anxieties, is the end point of the Marathon, has flat ADA-accessible grade and is the western terminus of the 3700 mile Great American Rail Trail.

Trail events return over $2 million/year to downtown businesses and support 140 jobs.

To put an end to this pointless experiment in environmental and social extremism, residents must “Rise Up” to elect new council that cares for residents’ safety, supports healthy non-motorized transportation and values downtown business economic vitality.
