Commonsense reforms, now for 18-21 year olds?
A phrase brandished by politicians.
What do they really mean?
The voting age in Washington is 18 years of age.
These young adults are considered competent enough to vote laws and presidents into place.
The legal age for adult drivers licenses is 18.
Getting married without parental consent is 18.
Tried as an adult, any minor in Washington for a serious crime like homicide.
Smoking — 18.
Join the National Guard at age 17.
Join the military at age 17.
There is no age requirement for an abortion in Washington.
But not drinking or smoking cannabis, where the age is 21. And now with I-1639, not being able to own a rifle of your choice.
If an invading army were to reach the Washington coast and you were in the military, you would be expected to fight and some would surely die at 17 defending us.
I completed multiple combat tours in Vietnam before I was 21.
I trained in the use of weapons.
If 18-year-olds are good enough to fight and die for Washington, they should be old enough to own a weapon.
After young adults lose this constitutional right, what will be next?
Use the common-sense approach when you vote. Preserve your rights and freedoms.
