LETTER: Not reporting the news at all just as egregious as misreporting it

“When it comes to the obligations of the Fourth Estate, just as egregious as misreporting the news is not reporting the news at all.” So says I.

On March 10, the PDN reprinted an Associated Press report on SJR 8204 — which would have prohibited taxation on individual income.

On March 7, this bill, on a third reading, failed to receive a two-thirds majority vote, the requirement if it were to be brought to voters.

No matter which side of this issue you may be on, I think we can all agree this proposed amendment to the state constitution is an extremely important one for voters, and you would think the PDN would recognize this and supply their readers with information back when this bill was introduced Jan. 27.

Evidently, the PDN chose not to report on this bill when it was submitted. (If they did, my PDN website search couldn’t find it.). Instead, they waited to inform their readers only after the bill had failed.

I for one would have liked to contact my representatives.

The PDN did, however, inform readers about Initiative 1, seeking “a 1.5 percent tax on household income…” on Jan. 30 — at the time it was being introduced. (Note: Voters have consistently nixed a state income tax for decades.)

Talk about fake news. What about no news?!

No wonder Americans trust so-called “journalists” about as much as a used car salesman.

P.S. My apologies, in advance, for denigrating used car salesmen.
