I find it ironic that while those who show the most disrespect for our flag and national anthem are the ones who understand them the least, they want to redefine what the flag and anthem mean for the rest of us.
Patriotism, honor, duty and sacrifice are exemplified by men and women in uniform, locally and around the world.
Neither the NFL or its players have any authority morally or otherwise to tell us what our flag represents.
Is America perfect?
Certainly not.
Are there racist people among us?
Sadly, yes there are.
Is America inherently racist?
No, it is not — nor are law enforcement or the military.
In a nation as large and free as ours you will have racists, but they do not represent the vast majority of Americans.
Do we really need a bunch of overpaid, out-of-touch, insulated-from-reality NFL players, coaches and owners lecturing us on how racist and unfair America is?
I have had enough.
The NFL and the Seahawks have lost another loyal fan.
Yes, what Michael Bennett and Richard Sherman have done is revolutionary.
Convincing the entire Seahawk team to disrespect our flag is quite an accomplishment for these brave pros.
If these pampered football players care to know what duty and sacrifice are, they could try this: Instead of strapping on your shoulder pads, strap on some body armor and go out on patrol with the police.
How about inner city Chicago?
Like to travel?
Maybe desert camo over your body armor?
I didn’t think so.
