LETTER: Misgivings about Robinson for Port Angeles City Council position

I have misgivings about Richard “Doc” Robinson’s candidacy for Port Angeles City Council, Position 5.

The Peninsula Daily News Voter Guide quotes him as saying:

“The city of Port Angeles did not contribute a dime to end homelessness. We must change our city budget priorities and freeze all city pay and benefit increases until our city contributes to our poor more than Sequim does to theirs.”

There is an unsolved homicide going cold-case at Sunbelt Apartments.

A family housing tenant allegedly burned herself and two other families out of their units in an arson fire.

Family housing was once evacuated so a visiting rampage shooter could shoot himself in 2012.

My point is this: City employees carry the bodies, shoot the tear gas [as in the rampage shooter case in 2012] and extinguish the fires it takes to keep permanent supportive housing running like a well-oiled machine.

It takes a special kind of serenity to say we have to make this our problem, not just the contractors.

We should be giving city workers serenity pay out of the Homeless Task Force funds.

If Robinson wants another fistfull of dollars, remember how he strong-armed the county, churches and United Way for $155,000 by threatening to kick everyone out of the homeless shelter?
