LETTER: Low-cost spaying available for cats locally

World Spay Day was created to encourage people to spay and neuter their companion animals and community cats, feral and stray, and to raise awareness of the importance of spaying and neutering and its effectiveness as the only humane solution to overpopulation.

This year World Spay Day is today.

It’s always the last Tuesday of February.

Spaying and neutering your cats will help them live longer as it reduces the incidence of cancer of the reproductive organs.

They will be less likely to roam, spray and yowl.

Because cats can become pregnant at four months, it’s important to spay or neuter before then.

There is help available locally with low-cost spay and neuters.

Contact one of the wonderful rescue groups and the shelter for help.

For instance Spay to Save offers cat spays, for female animals, for $20 and neuters for $10.

That will be your best investment ever.

Donations help groups like this do more low-cost surgeries.

By fixing your pets, you are helping to fix a sad statistic, the number of stray and pet cats killed because of overpopulation.
