LETTER: Legislators’ help

The front page article in the May 22 PDN described a virtual meeting between our three 24th District legislators and more than 100 county business people.

The entrepreneurs were asking for help in getting our governor to relax his shutdown of businesses.

What the business people got from our elected reps was tantamount to the proverbial bird.

Rep. Steve Tharinger: “Going up the chain will be more effective than us going to the governor. We need stuff percolating from the bottom up.” A do-nothing response.

Sen. Kevin Van de Wege: “We will work and put parameters around what we consider an essential business in case this happens again.” A non-response if there ever was one.

Rep. Mike Chapman displayed his total disregard for our federal constitution as well as his unwillingness to accept any responsibility for action: “Inslee has broad authority in the state of Washington…He has operated under his own guidelines.”

Perhaps he could point out where in our constitution it says, ”In case of a pandemic, this document is null and void.”

God help us.
