LETTER: Keep Stinson, now not the time for change in Port Townsend

I have known Deborah Stinson over a decade, having worked closely with her on many projects.

Port Townsend has benefited significantly from her leadership.

Let’s support her with our votes.

In 2006, Deborah Stinson and I worked with others to help co-found Local 20/20, Jefferson County’s transition initiative, dedicated to building local sustainability and community resilience.

This kind of mission demands a big picture, systems-oriented mindset and Deborah has one.

As mayor, Deborah also led policy developments and initiatives that make a real difference in our community: strengthening our emergency response by linking the now 120 or more neighborhood networks with the county and city comprehensive emergency management plan; shepherding the fire district annexation vote by a wide margin; ensuring the existence of our regional economic development district; and, most recently, handling sensitive contract negotiationswith Port Townsend’s new city manager.

At the center of these successes are Deborah’s strong relationships which have served as the foundation of effective process, especially at times of profound divisiveness in public discourse.

Deborah has built effective, active working relationships with: police, sheriff and fire department personnel; county commissioners; the U.S. Navy; the Chamber of Commerce; Jefferson Community Foundation and many other key players working to shape the future safety and livability of our whole community.

What would happen if we lost Deborah’s network connectivity, especially as we transition to a new city manager?

Now is not the time to change course.

Please vote for Deborah Stinson.
