LETTER: I really don’t have anything to complain about, living in majesty of Peninsula

I don’t know if this letter will get published in the Peninsula Daily News’ “echo chamber,” but I’m going to write it anyway.

I just don’t have much of anything to complain about, so this may be considered inappropriate.

I’m so happy to be an American, to live, to work, to play in this great country.

The freedom here is tremendous, and all the benefits are fantastic.

I can travel about as I choose, I can have my say, belong to a club, enjoy the great outdoors, engage in all manner of fun activities — I can pursue life, liberty and happiness all I want.

I especially love the life here on the North Olympic Peninsula, with its mountains, Olympic National Park, the water, water, water everywhere.

I love to be out in nature — hiking, camping, kayaking, stargazing — all that Nature can throw at me.

I don’t shrink from the snow; I camp in it.

I don’t avoid the storms; I go out in it and enjoy how Nature shows itself to be fully alive and active.

I love the ocean beach in the winter — how all the driftwood is tumbling and banging around.

My only real complaint is that my dogs only live to be 12 or 15 years old.

It would be so nice if they hung around a bit longer.

This really is a great time and place to be alive.

Sorry I couldn’t find more to complain about, but you go ahead if you wish.

James V. Loran,

Port Angeles
