LETTER: Guns save lives

I grieve for the two congregants from the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas murdered on Dec. 30 by a psychotic gunman and my sympathies extend to their families.

What could have been a much worse tragedy was stopped by a lawfully armed citizen.

The incident showed that guns save lives.

The anti-Second Amendment, gun-prohibitionists find fault in that.

Michael Bloomberg, Democratic presidential candidate and the billionaire backer of The Alliance for Gun Responsibility’s campaign to pass I-1639, after the incident said that citizens should wait for police.

We just can’t let the average American have guns in a crowded place, as his presumably armed body guards stood behind.

The average response time for police varies according to city, but is never less than about 5 minutes.

The church shooting took six seconds.

Elvia Diaz from The Arizona Republic posted an op-ed at azcentral.com concerning the murders.

“Jack Wilson [who stopped the madman] is…. a firearms instructor. But we know nothing about the at least six other parishioners who also appeared to draw their handguns. And that’s terrifying.”

Avoiding cardiac arrest, it appears she doesn’t know about the other 18 million concealed carry holders that are no problem.

There wasn’t a hail of bullets.

One shot put down the aggressor.

The other responsible parishioners never fired a shot.

It takes a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun.
