LETTER: Flag etiquette

Those who wish to display the flag are obligated to review the United States Flag Code and comply with its regulations.

Frequently seen:

Flags left out between sunset and sunrise without the required lighting, often 24/7 (Section 6-a)

Flags dripping wet in the rain (Section 6-c)

Flags being hauled around behind vehicles which ”permits it to be easily torn, soiled or damaged” (section 8- e)

Imposing any picture or symbol on a flag is considered disrespectful (Section 3)

This last one is especially relevant because of the ranting by Donald Trump about respect for the flag and then seeing a huge number of flags on the news of the Tulsa rally with pictures of Donald Trump as the dominant feature.

There was a song popular in the ‘60s called “Your flag decal won’t get you into heaven anymore.”’

Today your (disrespectful) flag waving does not equate patriotism.

Respect for the flag code as well as your fellow human beings sounds more like patriotism to me.

You can easily find the United States Flag Code with a quick internet search.

I am not making this up.
