LETTER: Enjoyed skating

This past weekend I did something that I hadn’t done in almost 20 years.

I went ice skating.

It was on a cold sunny day at the community rink in downtown Port Angeles.

My 9-year-old daughter had been asking to go since last year, so when the Port Angeles Elks Club graciously offered to pay for foster care families, we decided it was time to make the trip.

What ensued was some of the most fun we’ve had as a family this winter.

It was a great setup complete with outside heaters, a seating area, ice toys, hot cocoa, snacks and friendly volunteers.

Marc Abshire, the executive director for the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce, was easily recognizable in a helmet and an orange safety vest directing skate traffic in the middle of the rink.

Skaters of all shapes, sizes and ages cruised around the rink with smiles on their faces, laughing and encouraging each other all the way.

As a family, we want to kindly express our gratitude to the Port Angeles chamber and their partners for bringing ice skating to downtown Port Angeles and to the Elks Club and to the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program for supporting foster care families in our community.
