I am a member of the Port Townsend Food Co-op. I feel strongly enough about the unionization effort to refrain from shopping there as long as the co-op board and managers fight against unionization of the workers.
Since QFC and Safeway are unionized, I have morally better places to shop.
This issue should never have risen to the level of acrimony it has reached. The board and management need to do a top-down review of human resources practices and correct the deficiencies that are driving employees away.
I notice that, at the Food Co-op, employee morale is way down. The cashiers seem like they are either straining to smile or just going through the motions. Same with the stock staff in the aisles.
The symptoms are there for us to see.
Members need to urge the board to save the co-op from self-destructing.
