What were they thinking
Once or twice a year, the Port Angeles city council comes up with an idea that makes you wonder, “What were they thinking?”
Like a few years ago when the decision was made to close the public restrooms at 3 p.m. in the afternoon.
What did the council members find when they spent the night as “homeless?”
There is no access to restrooms.
Imagine that.
Now one council member would change the timing on traffic lights to create stop-and-go traffic downtown, as if it isn’t already caused by the crosswalks in the middle of the block.
I believe if it’s made worse by changing the lights, fewer people, not more will go downtown.
I know that the folks who have businesses downtown envision no one driving there and only pedestrian traffic, but I don’t foresee that happening, at least not in the near future.
We are still a car-loving society and I, for one, will stay out of downtown if I can’t drive there and I believe there are a lot of others who would agree.
