LETTER: Common sense gun laws? Since when have criminals obeyed laws?

Just look at recent stories in the Peninsula Daily News and Chicago Tribune.

I would like to make a few comments on Thomas Friedman’s Oct. 17 column in the PDN [“Can The U.S. Win This Election?”].

Mr. Friedman is calling for “common sense gun laws.”

When did the criminals start obeying the law?

There were two stories in the Oct. 17 PDN in which two different people were charged with or convicted of illegal possession of firearms [“Trial Reset In Salt Creek RV Park Standoff Case,” “Killing Conviction”].

Chicago has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation, yet 460 people have been killed there in 2016, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Enforce the gun laws already on the books.
