LETTER: Columnist should study climate change some more

Believe the data

In the Feb. 28 issue, Cal Thomas once again shows his true ignorance of the issue that is paramount to the safety and security of our nation, climate change.

Mr. Thomas calls climate change a fad, “like tattoos and body piercings.”

He takes great exception to the students in California championing changes that should be made to mitigate and slow the changes in our climate that are devastating not just the United States, but the world.

I would outline these changes once again, as I have done in other letters to Mr. Thomas, but he would simply call it

‘gobbledygook’ as he does in his column.

Mr. Thomas derides the parents and teachers of these students.

I commend them.

As long as facts are presented and evidence shown, these students, guided by teachers and parents, follow the trail of facts to the conclusion 97 percent of the world’s climate scientists have — that climate change is real, it is now, and it is not decreasing in its destruction.

Because something such as climate change can proceed slowly, with occasional devastating rapid climate events such as our increasingly hot summers and bitter cold winters, people such as Mr. Thomas denigrate those who see the signs, read the facts and believe the evidence.

Mr. Thomas says, “… more study might benefit these kids, as would different teachers ….”

Teachers like you, Mr. Thomas?

Heaven help us all.
