LETTER: Charter review measure has fragmented Clallam County government

We now have three district commissioners and no one representing Clallam County.

Clallam Country now essentially has district commissioners instead of county commissioners.

We used to have three county commissioners who were elected countywide, but last year, the Charter Review Commission proposed, and the voters agreed, to make county commissioners elected solely by voters in their district.

Prior to that change, candidates for county commissioner were chosen by district in the primary but the entire county voted on candidates in the general election.

I am unable to vote for Randy Johnson or Ron Richards for county commissioner because I don’t live in Port Angeles-area District 2 and yet supposedly, they are commissioners who represent our entire county.

We’ve adopted a system that fragments our county government.

We now have three district commissioners and no one representing Clallam County.

How is that working for you?

Sue Erzen,

Sequim
